Consumed By Vultures interview

Firstly, can you tell us about the formation of the band? When and how was it formed? Do you believe the band name 'Consumed By Vultures' perfectly describes your music and philosophy?

Consumed By Vultures is a Swiss Death Metal band formed in 2013. The band initially consisted of Alex Medici on vocals and Mattia La Delfa on Guitar/Bass/Drum Machine, who founded the band to channel their creativity and ideas through extreme music. The band’s name is inspired by a Tibetan funeral ritual, the sky burial, where the bodies of the dead are skinned and then offered to vultures as a final act of generosity from the deceased. The founders chose this name because they wanted to 'give something back' to the world through their music.

Now, can you tell us about Scissione and the lyrical themes behind the track? What are the ideas you wanted to convey?

After Pseudobiblion, we decided to take our time to write the next album, and in the meantime, we thought that each of us could write a 'personal' single, bringing a lyric and an instrumental draft of the song that we would then develop and finalize together.

Scissione is a no-compromise song, imposing its rhythm without concern for anything else. The idea behind this track is to offer a privileged spectator perspective, one who experiences the inner conflict of identity as it unfolds.

This is accompanied by a dark and sharp video, featuring the sole protagonist, Timoteo, as he navigates this conflict.

As for the setting of the video, the decision was made to recreate a dark environment, evoking the intimate oblivion that grips the protagonist’s soul, haunted by a demon that embodies the evil side, pushing him toward an extreme act.

Scissione is born from an identity conflict that doesn’t seek answers but festers within, annihilating the protagonist’s soul and essence. This song raises existential questions to which no answers can be found. The division aims to bring to light the fragility of the human being, who must choose whether to succumb or fight for their own existence.

And you, who are you? Don’t answer me—answer yourself.

Where and when did you record Scissione? Are you satisfied with the final product?

We recorded Scissione at Studio B13 with our friend Gabriele in the summer of 2024. The mix/master was done by Demigod Records because it was the kind of sound Timoteo was looking for and we are pleased.

Do you have any plans to release official band merchandise?

We already have a lot of it. We are planning to release 6 more singles, and each one will have its own dedicated merch. If the 7 singles receive a good response, we will group them into an EP.

What are Consumed By Vultures' musical and non-musical influences?

Of course, all the music we listen to has a significant impact. And by 'all,' we mean absolutely everything, as we don't 'exclude' any genre (from metal to rap to classical music, and so on). Outside of music, we draw inspiration from everyday experiences and events, as well as from books (for example, Pseudobiblion is based on Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy), paintings, films, and so on.

Could you please share your personal views on religion and god?

We are not believers, in any type of religion or cult. However, we do not judge those who have faith, as long as they do not try to impose their views on others. We firmly believe that fanatic extremists, of any faith or belief, are a problem. Those who consider themselves the keepers of an absolute truth and do not accept any alternative.

Can we expect to see some gigs across the USA or Europe in the near future?

Around Europe for sure. It would be great to go to the USA, but we don't have any plans for that at the moment. Promoters, come forward—we don't bite! :)

Lastly, when can fans expect something new from you?

We are preparing to release 6 more singles, each with a dedicated video and merchandise. If these singles receive a good response, we will likely group them into an EP. While working on these singles, we are already looking ahead to a follow-up to Pseudobiblion/in Eterno.

Thank you for the interview. Is there anything you would like to say to your fans, supporters, critics, and our readers before we wrap up?

We are always grateful for the support we receive, both in terms of listens and at live shows. Always support underground music, especially live, as that's where you meet amazing people and forge lasting friendships.
