THORGRIM interview

Hi, THORGRIM. Greetings from Germany! What are you up to these days?

Well, hello, yeah, we are just working our day jobs and working on a lot of music right now, art ideas, and next steps we want to take.

Would you please introduce your band to our readers who are not aware of your music?

Let's see, there is Mike, guitar and main songwriter, Colton, drums, backing vocals, they are the two guys who started this, then there is Tom on bass, and he writes a few words here and there, and last is Trent, the newest member who joined this year, mid-January, as the lead singer.

Could you give us a little insight into the formation of the band? When and how did it happen?

Really by chance, Mike was looking for people to form a band that would play all originals and not really care about what type of music came out, and sees music as more of an art form than just this thing with rules. But that all started to happen in 2023? But the ideas go farther back.

At what age did you guys start playing instruments, and since when have you been into metal music?

I believe we all started young, and a funny thing is, we all like metal music, but none of us would say that we make metal, you know. More rock with a lot of fuck you aggression. Maybe a form of metal but with punk at its heart, you know.

THORGRIM recently released Puca. Could you tell us something about it and walk us through all the track's lyrics and meanings?

Yes, it's a work of art more than just music itself, at its core, we just wanted to do something completely different and go at it alone and say fuck it to all the bullshit that is with pop music and all the bull shit polished music out there. I’ll just say the words, lyrics have no meaning, but have deep meaning, you know. Pain, hate, anger, and a mental breakdown.

How has the response been so far from listeners? Have you started working on new songs?

Well, I would say 50/50 you like it or hate it, as a band we really don’t pay much attention to likes, dislikes, you know. And oh yes, new music, Puca was all done last year, and those ideas are gone and dead, and we have a new lead singer, so we have already rerecorded some old demos and polished them up nice and made a pile of new material.

When and where did you play your first gig? How was the experience of going live for the first time?

This band's first gig was here in Wisconsin, and it went like beautiful shit. Early members were not very reliable, so it was just drums and guitar, but we made it something fun, and the club guy dug it and let us come back.

According to you, what is the secret behind the band's success?

Oh man, um, I'd say what success is, but going from failure to failure and not giving up, but also being open to new ideas and new people.

Have you ever had an epic fail moment during a gig?

Epic? No, but sound issues and equipment issues.

If asked to differentiate THORGRIM from other bands in the same genre in Wisconsin, how would you respond?

That’s a tough question, cause I don’t think there is anybody making music like we make here; everybody in the band is really from different backgrounds and even different parts of the country. So maybe that.

How compatible are the band members with each other?

A lot and none, fun fact: 3 members have birthdays within a 2-week time frame.

Which bands/artists do you draw your influences from, and which are your favorite local bands?

I think each member has a different answer to that, but as a band, the music we make together is influenced by Danzig, and everything from that tree 70s rock and weird jazz music horror, and Tom says DRI thrash. Local bands to us would be the French Irish Connection, Grindge, Bluthaven, Conjures of The Moon, Suture-Self from Milwaukee, to name a few.

How do you guys manage your jobs and gigs, and how often do you gather altogether just for fun?

It’s a pain right working a full-time job and playing music, but it's fun and it’s a business, you know. And we get together once a week.

THORGRIM is a very promising formation. Looking at your future, where do you see yourselves in 3 years?

Playing music and hopefully playing in front of fans and people where you are.

Well, that’s it. Thanks a lot for your time. Could you speak out to all your fans and supporters?

Thank you very much for wanting to hear from us and giving us a place to answer your questions, and also for an outlet so people can hear things about us. Really awesome questions, again, thank you.
