Review of Papa Necrose - Anthropomorphy Execution / Awakening Records

So, Papa Necrose are back with their second album, Anthropomorphy Execution, which dropped on March 20th via Awakening Records. I’ve been spinning it a lot since it came out, and this shit hits. From the very first riff, you know the band isn’t messing around, it’s raw, loud, and aggressive, but in a way that makes you want to keep listening, not just turn it off because it’s “too much”.

The guitars are thick, massive, the drums are crushing, and the bass sits low but solid underneath everything. Even when it’s full-on chaos, you can pick out what’s going on in each instrument. Some riffs twist and loop in ways that kept me on my toes, you never quite know what’s coming next. It’s technical, but it doesn’t feel like the band is showing off; it all makes sense in the songs.

I kept catching little moments that surprised me, a subtle change in the rhythm, a riff that jumps in unexpectedly, the way the layers of guitars and drums stack together. If you’re into ’90s technical death metal, you’ll hear hints of Human or Pestilence.

The lyrics. They’re not just random gore; the band calls out religious hypocrisy, particularly Catholicism’s role in history, as well as war, death, and corruption. It gives the album a darker edge, making the heaviness feel like it actually means something. You can feel the anger and the critique bleeding through the riffs and drums.

“The Thousand Yard Gaze” at the end sounds cool - James Murphy drops in a guest solo, and it adds this sharp, cool edge that really sticks with you.

This album makes you feel the growth of Papa Necrose. They’re still brutal and raw, but the songs are tighter, more detailed, and each part feels purposeful. You get the sense that these guys have been playing together a long time and really know how to hit that old-school death metal sound while keeping it interesting. For anyone who likes death metal with big ass, some technical chops, and lyrics that bite, Anthropomorphy Execution is definitely worth checking out!
