• Hi! Can you tell me about STARSCOURGE? Why did you choose that name for the band? What kind of ideas does the band explore?
We were planning on something connected to the Elden Ring concept back in 2022, and finally decided on Starscourge. Thematically, we explore the world and lore of FromSoftware’s Elden Ring.
• Conqueror of the Stars - Betwixt Sundered Seraphim, the Lands Between Bleed will be released on December 19th, 2025. How does that make you feel? Do you feel that you have put the album out to the masses without any desire to change anything now?
The album has been meticulously worked on since 2022, and we are very proud of the final product in its entirety.
• Can you tell me more about "Conqueror of the Stars … "? What were the ideas behind the album?
Musically:
When we both started talking about this collaboration and the musical direction, we arrived at an epic Blackened Death concept, with a strong emphasis on melody. We also wanted to incorporate a classic Heavy Metal feel and energy to the tracks. Zul began writing the tracks without bearing too much direction to specific genre rules and limitations, and thus followed the path of the various riffs and melodies to reach each musical conclusion. Mithun has hearkened to the diversity of these riffs and melodies and added his vocal stylings accordingly.
Lyrically:
To delve into any FromSoftware title is to navigate through obscurity and interconnectivity. We wanted to narrate the tales of The Lands Between in a semi-chronological manner, as well as focus on certain key figures.
• Where do you draw inspiration from?
Well, apart from the obvious Elden Ring references, we have so many different mediums that inspire us. Reality, literature, art etc.
• How would you best define STARSCOURGE's sound?
Perhaps an epic Blackened Death sound with a cinematic and melodic outlook? We opt not to be confined by genre norms.
• Are you on hiatus now, just relaxing and looking for album feedback, or have you started composing new material immediately?
We are awaiting the reception that Conqueror of the Stars will receive. And of course, there is more material underway. We also have another Black Metal project together, Chaos Imperium, with a split scheduled for release in late December.
• Who are your main musical influences? How much of an impact have they had on your sound?
For Starscourge it’s a a whole slew of influences. Sacrilege (Sweden), Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate, Black Sabbath to name a few. We grew up listening to so many different artists and genres that every aspect has added some modicum of colour to our sound.
• Is there a particular well-known musician that you would like to collaborate with on one of your upcoming albums?
Zul: King Diamond and Andy LaRoque
Mithun: Rob Halford
• What is your personal strategy for getting your music heard by a larger audience?
In this modern age of the microchip, things should be easier. However, the rise of algorithms and what not do tend to complicate matters. Just keeping pumping out great music!
• Do you have any hobbies besides music?
Zul: Reading
Mithun - voice acting, reading, video games
• Are you all supported by your families in your dedication to music?
Zul: Yes, most definitely
Mithun: definitely
• How is the metal scene in Singapore right now? Is it easy to play gigs and buy records there these days?
The Singapore Metal scene has come a long way in the past decade. Great organisers, excellent bands, and amazing people all supporting one another. Playing gigs can be a little more complicated due to a lack of venues, but everyone does their best to resolve this challenge.
They are certainly places where one can buy records and merch. We have Inokii, Roxy Records, Hellthrone Records, Ravage Records. Best place is always at live gigs.
• Thank you for answering my questions. See you on the road!
