MYRHOLT interview
Hey there! I’m not sure if evolved is the right word to use but it’s organic so it’s bound to be subject to some sort of change. It’s not like I ever decide to write an album or even a song or a riff. It just happens. When I get THAT feeling I just fetch my acoustic guitar and let it flow.
How long does it typically take for you to record an album?
The actual recording takes about the time it takes to play through it. Times the number of tracks obviously since I do everything myself. So for every minute of music there’s probably around 10-15 minutes of recording. After the recording is done I’ll leave it alone for a while and start the mixing process with untainted auditory perception.
Can you tell us more about your latest album, "Blandede meninger og aforismer"?
’’Blandede meninger og aforismer’’ was initially created during the winter of 2020-2021 and recorded using keyboards around March 2021. Hence the ambient version of the album. The full version of the album was sporadically recorded from around March 2021 to April 2023 and then mixed during the winter of 2023-2024. This is the first album I’ve done in 15 years where someone else is involved in mixing and mastering and also in the design of the physical releases.
The framework for the album was a philosophical glance at the prospect of a future. Doesn’t look to bright does it? It’s time to take a giant step backwards. ’’Mindre av alt, mer av ingenting!’’
What's next for MYRHOLT? Are you working on any new albums, and if so, can you give us some details?
The next album will be ’’…uten myte mister enhver kultur sin sunne, skapende naturkraft…’’. Apoximately 70 minutes of music. Will MYRHOLT evolve? Let’s find out…
Do you have any upcoming tours or gigs planned to promote your latest album? Are there any plans for MYRHOLT to play in Europe or the USA in the future?
No plans for any tours or gigs. It’s been 8 years since the last time I was on a stage and I’m determined to keep it that way.
Have you ever done any opening acts for major heavyweight bands? If so, when and where?
I can’t remember opening for anyone ever except for someone hit wonder Norwegian pop artist when we did the first gig with Enslavement of Beauty back in the daze…
What is your opinion on the black metal scene in your part of Norway?
There’s no scene…at least not that I’m aware of. And I wouldn’t care to be part of it even if it was.
Do you have any messages for our readers?
Regress. And be self-sufficient. As previously stated; mindre av alt, mer av ingenting!
