SATANIC WARMASTER set release date for new WEREWOLF album
Today, Werewolf Records announces November 13th as the international release date for Satanic Warmaster's highly anticipated eighth album, Drachenkreuz, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.
Satanic Warmaster needs no introduction. Since the band's formation in 1998, founder Werwolf has prolifically - and provocatively - stoked fires that refuse to be quenched. A totally independent artist in all aspects, Satanic Warmaster has sold hundreds of thousands of albums internationally and played stages all across the world, from north to south and east to west. The band's black metal is devoutly traditional but eternally fruitful, standing as an immovable monument to the purest and proudest foundations of the artform. As such, Satanic Warmaster is hated and loved with equally strong passion, with those naysayers only feeding that fire with falsehoods and gross misconceptions. There is no middle ground: no apologies, and no surrender.
As has been sagely sung in the past, in times of strife, Satanic Warmaster returns. Enter Drachenkreuz, the band's eighth full-length to date. While 2024's Exultation of Cruelty was a concerted strive for older and more primitive pastures, Drachenkreuz functions as something of a companion album to 2022's majestic Aamongandr. In fact, the roots of Drachenkreuz were recorded during the Aamongandr sessions, with the idea to record two albums at once, but Werwolf finalized Drachenkreuz later and with a different approach. Mind you, Drachenkreuz is still Satanic Warmaster and immediately so - rippling second-wave melodicism shot through with tragedy and triumph, antagonism and aristocracy - but its similarly varied songcraft conveys a much-larger headspace than is usually customary for stridently rigid parameters. As such, one will find a splendorous panorama spanning paradigmatic Norsecore to proto-bestiality and various points in between: effectively, not unlike modern classic Carelian Satanist Madness but with an even-wider spectrum.
That Drachenkreuz's soundfield remains so authentically dungeonic and yet richly detailed and almost sparkling underlines the alchemical magick this record so uniquely possesses. And as the album moves from one song to the next, each one as distinct as the last, a sense of world-building is established: indeed "Nosferatu's Land," with Werwolf surveying the rotten-yet-regal landscape from the highest tower. Spot the heroic guitar solos on stage-setting opener "Rex Typhonis" and hulking title track "The Dragon's Cross" as well as the warlusting backing vocals on the barbaric combo of "Infernal Armageddon" and "Christrape," and disparate threads of experience are sewn together with that same alchemy.
