ZVINDIYAR interview
Hi ZVINDIYAR, congratulations on the coming release of Six Rites! You must be excited. Firstly, can you tell us about the formation of the band? When and how was it formed? Do you believe the band name 'ZVINDIYAR' perfectly describes your music and philosophy?
Thank you and thank you again for having us!
ZVINDIYAR was formed in Bahrain while we were writing what eventually became Six Rites. It grew out of years of previous bands, unfinished ideas and wanting to build something new from the ground up.
The name suits us because it feels ancient and regional without tying us to one specific story or mythology. That gives us room to create our own world around the music.
Now, can you tell us about Six Rites and the lyrical themes behind each track? What are the ideas you wanted to convey?
Six Rites revolves around transformation, ambition, decay, collapse and renewal.
Anqa is about rebirth and overcoming inner resistance.
Hex of the Frenzied Decay deals with psychological deterioration and chaos.
The Soaring Enigmatic is about pursuing something greater without fully understanding it.
Fell represents collapse and surrender to something darker.
الهمس الأول acts as an atmospheric transition after that collapse.
Shadhavar deals with mortality, ambition and what remains of us after death.
The tracks are connected thematically, but we did not want to force a completely linear story.
Where and when did you record Six Rites? Are you satisfied with the final product?
Most of it was recorded at Studio 77 in Bahrain over roughly two years while the songs continued evolving.
Ronnie Björnström handled the final mix and master.
And yes, we are very happy with it. More importantly, it established what ZVINDIYAR is supposed to sound and feel like.
Do you have any plans to release official band merchandise?
Yes, definitely. We have also discussed physical releases such as vinyl.
For now, though, we would rather do merchandise properly when the timing and budget make sense instead of rushing something out.
What are ZVINDIYAR's musical and non-musical influences?
Musically, death metal is the foundation, with influences from bands such as Bloodbath, Opeth, Septicflesh, Dark Fortress, Behemoth and Rivers of Nihil.
Outside music, mythology, history, visual art, life itself and actual happenings are major influences.
Could you please share your personal views on religion and god?
I am more interested in questioning ideas about mortality, purpose, belief and human behaviour.
That also influences the lyrics, but ZVINDIYAR is not a religious project.
Can we expect to see some gigs across the USA or Europe in the near future?
Europe is definitely something we want to pursue.
We have already had some opportunities come our way, but travelling internationally from Bahrain with a full band is expensive, so we need the right festival, support slot or promoter arrangement to make it realistic.
The US is also something we would love to reach eventually.
Lastly, when can fans expect something new from you? A music video, single, or documentary perhaps?
We already have the new material beyond Six Rites.
A proper music video is also something we want to do next.
For now, though, we want to give Six Rites its proper release cycle before moving too quickly into the next chapter.
Thank you for the interview. Is there anything you would like to say to your fans, supporters, critics, and our readers before we wrap up?
Thank you to everyone who has listened, shared, reviewed or supported ZVINDIYAR so far.
For a new band from Bahrain, seeing the music already reaching people outside the country means a lot to us.
Six Rites is only the beginning.
