• Hi! Can you give a brief history of Mangled Recrement, including the music style and the members?
Mangled recrement was formed in 2024 when I (Lucas) met up with our drummer, who I knew for some time, and found out he played drums. We were both playing music in an old rehearsal space where many bands from Lublin had been rehearsing for years. We've been meeting up to play some old-school rotten sounding death metal for some time until Ziemowit who has been also playing in Leucotome with me decided to join us and record a demo with us.
• Could you provide more detailed information about your debut demo?
The demo includes some songs we have written in the rehearsal space together, and were an effect of our musical cooperation. Making them sound the way we want took us some time. It presents the style we are going for, trying to combine interesting songwriting with oldschool, raw sound.
• Mangled Recrement has signed with Caligari Records. Could you tell us more about that?
We are fortunate enough to release our music in collaboration with Caligari records, and the decision to reach out to the label was based on their great demo releases. We've been following the label for some time and we felt like it would fit our sound. We decided that releasing our music there would promote our music to the right audience.
• What is the difference between your latest record and the band's very first rehearsal?
Well, the ammount of beers consumed has remained stable, but we have definitely developed our sound with songs you hear on the demo. The writing process nowadays is easier for us, as we all know what we are going for. We are now more comfortable with writing new songs. Our attitude towards rehersing is definitely more serious now, which is not diminishing the fun factor, as we are all having fun writing music and hanging out.
• What inspires Mangled Recrement's music and lyric writing? What do Mangled Recrement's lyrics talk about?
The style that we developed was obviously influenced by the recent death metal underground releases. I (Lucas) am a big fan of bands like Undergang, Malignant Altar or Morbific, that bring the heavy and raw side of death metal and make it theirs, developing and pushing the death metal sound further. The classics from the 90s have also developed my song and riff writing. The lyrics mostly come from my imagination, which is amplified by the old-school horror movies. I try to keep them grotesque and obscure, trying to fit the vibe of the song. Drums and bass were additionally inspired by other metal acts such as Blood Incantation, Gorguts or Dysrhythmia.
• Do you play live often? Do you enjoy performing abroad?
As mangled recrement, we have only played one live show in my (Lucas) hometown, which has a developed young metal subculture. We consider our debut has went well and we our planning to play some bigger shows in the future. Playing abroad is one of our targets, but due to the financial aspect of playing abroad in current times, we definetly have to release more music and grow an audience in order to play shows abroad.
• How often does the band practice and work on new material?
Me (Lucas) and our drummer are meeting more ofter as we both live or work close to our rehearsal space. Every other time we meet with our basist who writes most of his parts at home. It all depends on how much time we have, but new material is being written pretty consistently.
• How did the band come up with the name MangledRecrement? What does it mean to you?
I (Lucas) came up with the band name, trying to think of something that would represent our music well. Mangled Recrement was picked, as it represents the chaotic and mangled riffing, combined with the rotten, filthy sound.
• What are the band's plans for the near future?
We are hoping to find some time to write more songs for our LP soon. Right now we wanna play some shows, probably in Poland, and collect some money for recording, selling merch.
• Do you have a message for Iron Backstage readers?
