Fuuuuuck man, good start of the year! This Dune Aurora album is doing my head in, in the best way. Ice Age Desert? Absolute banger. These three Italian witches have just kicked the door down and proper fucked up my playlist.
“Gateway” starts and I’m already gone – that slow, sleazy riff crawling in, Ginny’s voice all smoky and dangerous, then the other two jump in with harmonies and it’s like some desert coven dragging you into the sand. Sexy as hell and heavy as balls. Then bam, “Crocodile” and “Trapdoor” just steamroller you. Massive, greasy grooves, fuzz so thick it’s clogging my speakers. Serena’s smashing the shit out of the drums, Roberta’s bass is this dirty, throbbing beast, and Ginny’s guitar sounds like it’s been soaked in petrol and set on fire. Proper head-nodding, room-spinning stuff.
The slow ones though... “Sunless Queen” is a monster. Drags you down into this cold, grimy pit – total early Soundgarden vibes mixed with that endless desert stare-out. It goes on a bit, yeah, but when I’m in the zone it just buries me alive and I love it. “Dune Chameleon” gets all trippy with those weird eastern bits sneaking in, proper melts your brain.
They stuck “Fire” on here too, beefed up from the single – slinks along like a snake, bass leading the way, total earworm. Ends with “Se Ponga El Sol” and it just loops you right back to the start, like you’ve been wandering in circles in a frozen desert getting slowly roasted.It’s raw, it’s messy in places, low end’s massive thanks to Plotkin sorting the master, and yeah maybe one or two bits outstay their welcome when I’m not totally wrecked, but who gives a toss. This is proper fuzz worship.
If you’re into Uncle Acid when they’re being creepy little bastards, or Jess doing their occult dance, or Acid King crushing everything slow, or Ruby kicking out those big hooks – you need this. These girls aren’t fucking about pretending, they’re just doing it, and doing it filthy.
Been hammering it non-stop, neighbours probably want me dead, and I’m not even sorry. Turn it up, roll one, let the riffs freeze your nuts off. Fucking immense.
