Review of NEPAL DEATH - Pilgrims and Psychonauts / Kali Psyche Records

Nepal Death’s Pilgrims and Psychonauts drops September 12, 2025, on Kali Psyche Records, and it’s definitely a 5/5 psych rock kick to the face that’ll leave you dizzy and grinning like a maniac. These Swedish nutjobs puke out 14 tracks of total neo-psych insanity. Picture yourself stuck in a rusted-out van, flooring it through a desert with no map, head spinning from bad weed. Guitars growl like they’ve been beaten to hell in a back-alley fight. Real sitars wail like ghosts crawling out of a busted radio. Analog synths hum like a junked spaceship ready to blow. Flutes screech like a crow getting gutted, gongs smash like a drunk trashing a temple, tanpura drones choke you in a thick fog, and drums hit like a hammer to the ribs. It’s half holy chant, half bar brawl.

This record’s a fevered mess, like you’re holed up in a fleabag motel with the walls bleeding weird vibes. You’ll wanna thrash around till your shoes fall apart, but you might wake up in a ditch, clutching a flyer for a gig by a band that doesn’t exist. It’s got King Gizzard’s batshit spark, Brian Jonestown Massacre’s dirty drone, Goat’s gut-rumbling thud, the Rolling Stones’ Satanic Majesties strut, plus Les Big Byrd and Silverbullit’s jagged-ass edges. Over 30 weirdos - guys from The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Øresund Space Collective, Exorcist GBG, Papir - jump in this sloppy, loud jam that’s like a cult party where someone torched the altar. Tracks bleed together like a week-long bender, catchy but grimy, sacred but ready to shank you. You’re sweating like a pig, buzzing like you stole a UFO, feeling that twitch like the floor’s about to drop. This is psych rock from the dirt - no shine, no bullshit, just a raw, loud, fucked-up trip that leaves you hyped and ready to spin it again.
