FALLING LEAVES are back after 13 years of nothing since Mournful Cry of a Dying Sun, and The Silence That Binds Us is a heavy, miserable bastard of an album. These Jordanian doom/death weirdos don’t mess around - they’re here to make you feel like you’re drowning in tar. This is the kind of record you play when life sucks, and you wanna feel it in your bones.
Eight tracks, all dark as hell. Bashar Haroun’s vocals are rough - growls like he’s spitting up his soul, and clean singing that sounds like he’s mourning his own funeral. They got some big names helping: Paul Kuhr (Novembers Doom) growling like a ghoul, Ariel Perchuk (Kenziner) laying down spooky keys, and Fabio Alessandrini (Bonfire, Annihilator) hitting the drums like they owe him cash. Dan Swanö’s mastering makes every note sound like a brick to the head.
This is doom/death, raw and nasty. Think My Dying Bride if they were stuck in a basement with no lights. The riffs are slow, heavy, like carrying a coffin. The melodies cut like a rusty blade - sad and sharp. The songs - no titles, screw it - are about death, pain, and the garbage that keeps you awake at night. Murad Juneydi’s lyrics are straight-up, like a drunk friend telling you how bad it hurts.
FALLING LEAVES were gone forever, but they’re back to wreck your soul. If you dig Novembers Doom, old Katatonia, or Draconian, this is your jam. Crank it, feel the pain, and hail the darkness. Listen If You Like: My Dying Bride, Novembers Doom, Draconian, or hating your life in the dark.
