Hi there! How are you doing these days?
Myrone here, I'm doing fantastic.
How would you classify Firstborne music? Do you agree with the reviewers who are trying to describe your musical genre as “heavy metal”?
I just hope the reviewers think it's "good music".
Who are your top five musical influences?
Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Beck, Lars Ulrich, Chris Poland, Masayoshi Takanaka.
What do you want fans to take away from your music? Is it just a mood, or do you hope to communicate specific ideas?
I would love to communicate the specific idea that they need to order the vinyl and cd from the M-Theory records website.
Can you tell us about Lucky?
Lucky was one of the craziest months of my entire life. I somehow became internet penpals with metal legends Chris Adler and Girish Pradhan, and then somehow we all agreed to come to Dripping Springs Texas to make a record. I had prepped 100+ demos in preparation for the session, but Chris was adamant that we try and write a bit in person. I was skeptical, but we definitely caught a wave and after the first week we had written 18 songs. We picked our favorite 10 and polished them up to what you hear today.
What do you love and hate about the music business?
I love making art, but monetizing it is probably one of my least favorite activities on earth. It's a small price to pay for being able to wake up and pursue my dreams every day though.
What is the best concert you have ever been to? What do you enjoy most about playing live?
I recently saw Masayoshi Takanaka play at the Wiltern in LA and it was amazing. The energy from the crowd was electric and it was fun being in a room with a bunch of people who were excited about guitar.
How have you evolved as an artist or band over the past year?
I recently became a dad which has been like a super power for me. It's extremely motivating, but it also gives me a lot of perspective. When I see my daughter smile I suddenly forget about the annoying parts of my "job".
If you could meet, play a gig, co-write a song, have dinner, or get drunk with any band or artist (dead or alive), who would it be?
This is a tough question for me because in many respects, Chris and Girish are the people I would call if I could have ANYBODY. But, if it couldn't be them, I would really love to hang out with/learn game from Steve Lukather. I've always heard that he could hear a song and make up a part on the spot that sounded like he had been playing it for decades. That's how good I want to be at guitar, and also playing on the modern equivalent of "thriller" would be nice too. Maybe he could tell me if I play "Smell Yourself" by Los Lobotomys the right way.
What's next for Firstborne?
World Domination.
