DRUNKEN CROCODILES interview

Hi! Can you tell me about DRUNKEN CROCODILES and your previous musical experiences?

Hi rockers, Elia here, founder singer & bass player of "Drunken Crocodiles".

The project was born almost as a joke many years ago, together with a guy I met by chance at a party (completely drunk)...

We started playing, and from there we decided to start a band.

Then over the years, many things have changed, they have transformed and evolved naturally, until arriving at our debut album in 2019, (very Sludge and angry stuff).

From there I changed the line-up again, and with this current, we've found a sound that in my opinion is very interesting.

We have delved into melodic and dreamlike environments, which I felt the time had come to explore.

Why did you choose your band name, how did you form, and what led you to play the genre(s) you do?

The band name because initially with the other founder (the drunk boy at the party) we started playing blues...

Very calm and relaxed blues, so we looked for a "mascotte" that could convey the idea of those typical swampy environments.

From there the drunk crocodile!

Can you tell us about AEGONY?

It's a concept album that revolves around the theme of the "ego", and more than anything else how we misuse our ego.

Mainly oriented to evolve only the "I". An ego that only looks at individualism.

While if the ego of all of us was at the service of the community, and of others, probably the entire evolution would benefit a lot!

Each song speaks of a single story, which revolves around this key theme.

About sound, we wanted a completely "analogic" album!

Obviously, we worked in post-production, and our sound engineer made a great job of mixing and mastering, but for example, we didn't use re-amp, we didn't use triggers, we didn't use pitch correctors, the use of the compressor is almost 0.

In short, we remained very faithful to what we played with our hands, trying to leave unaltered the natural execution of each song.

What kind of feedback are you hoping to receive for your album?

Honestly, I would like to receive an "all-round" appreciation.

It's liked for the themes covered in the Concept, for the writing of the lyrics, for the technical composition, for the musical environments, for the emotions it transmits, for the choice of analogic rec/mix.

In short, it can be liked from various points of view!

Do you plan to embark on a world tour in the future? Do you think touring the world is an option available to every band, or what does a band need to do to achieve this opportunity?

Hi Folks, Federico here, Guitar player.

I think that before embarking on a world tour, it's essential to have great musical chemistry among the band members and very positive feedback from both the audience and music critics.

Of course, having organizational and financial support from your record label is also crucial.

Do you believe in a heavy music scene without money?

Theoretically, I believe that money is the enemy of creativity, and I think it's possible to create heavy music with little money, but a lot of willpower and maximum dedication.

I also believe that artists should be paid fairly and decently so they can focus exclusively on creating music.

What are your thoughts on online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free, and if so, why?

Every form of art should be free, open, and accessible to everyone, but we live in a world that has taken a different path.

Online music has been ruined by greed and consumerism because it has become a market product rather than an art form.

For all these reasons, we don't offer our music for free.

Who are your musical influences? Did you ever imagine your band could become as famous as your favorites?

Musical influences are varied, ranging from classics like Kyuss and Fu Manchu, to more modern ones like Stone Jesus and Gaupa.

As well as influences from different genres such as Tool, Limp Bizkit, Rage Against the Machine, and Others.

The hope of sharing stages with famous bands that have inspired us is Always there.

The journey is always uphill, and dedication must be strong and consistent.

Have you received formal music education? Do you think it's an important factor?

Hi everyone, Simone, Drums.

From my personal experience, after first self-taught approaches to the instrument, I went to study in the academy with a professional teacher, and this made me completely change my listening perspective and approach.

Personally, I recommend it, but stories of self-taught musicians who reach very high levels are not uncommon.

Fundamental things are constant practice and endless hours of listening.

How do you balance your music with other obligations such as family, job, etc.?

Personally, I believe that balancing everything is not easy, it's a continuous question of choices.

For me, rehearsals or concerts take priority over everything. It depends on the level you want to reach.

If you want to be an occasional musician, you can dedicate just one evening a week to it, and you're happy.

But if you have one or more musical projects that you believe in, you have to consider all the other "life obligations" as relevant up to a point.

How do you deal with mistakes during a performance? Do you get nervous before a performance or competition?

It takes experience, rehearsals and a lot of stage presence, it's the way to reduce pre-live tensions (that are normal the first few times), and it's the way to resolve any errors that may occur.

After many years and many live shows, you come to understand that you're going on stage to do the most beautiful thing in the world, why you have to be nervous?

What's next for your band? Thank you!

Our immediate goal is certainly to dedicate all of this 2025 to pushing and promoting our next album "AEGONY", out in spring 2025.

Lisen our first single "AUTOJEKTOR" Guys... Cheers!!

Also, we have to work on new songs and stuff, but the basic idea is to bring "Drunken Crocodiles" as much as possible to live clubs and festivals.
