Hi Ka'rah! How have you been?
Pretty good. Finally getting synced with are new guitarist and excited to get back on stage.
Can you tell us more about Epitaphs of War?
Epitaphs of war is amalgamation of all our inspirations and views of life. We started to write it as an exhaust valve.
To express ourselves how we couldn't in real life. All of it evolved in this EP that we hold close to our hearths since it's also a part of us.
Did any particular event inspire you to write this EP? Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics?
The events happening for the past few years have inspired us to write it. Right after quarantine and wars around world, everything around us looked so bleak and depressive.
Blasphemous preacher is a prime example of it. The song is about warmongering and false idols that started to be around us in even greater number.
Are there any plans to release a new music video for one of the tracks?
There are plans for music video for some of our new songs. Probably as lead up to our first LP. But everything in it's own place and time.
Can you describe the recording and writing process for the EP?
Ex-guitarist Kiš and I (Slavko) would come up with riffs in our own free time, mostly practicing at home. We would then bring them down to practice and present it to others where everyone would have a say in it, comment and decide they liked it or not.
Decapitator was a first song we ever wrote. It has it's flaws but we didn't know better. With each song we aspire to improve as players and as a band.
Recording was a real fun as we decided on a DIY approach. First recording of drums went down the drain so it prolonged the recording for few months until we learned a thing or two about recording.
But for everything else we were ready. Guitars and bass already had tones we liked and our vocalist prepared for his takes. We are very proud of how it sounds since it's very first time ever recording something by ourselves.
What was it like working with no label?
For most of us this is a first band we have ever been in. For all - first serious one. So it's little bit scary without anybody to guide us.
It's like learning to walk for the first time alone. We are learning on the go how to manage and do things.
Booking and promotion goes more on acquaintances or connections so it still feels like small close circle. We are aware we have much more to learn but time will show us the way.
To what extent did each musician influence the EP?
Everyone had their say. As much as we guitarists take the spotlight and come with riffs, everyone in our band has an equal role. Marin came up with some drum parts we never would have thought of in our entire lives. Lucija on bass, as shy she is, has underrated potential. We fully comprehended her wit on the recording of EP when we could finally hear her isolated parts.
Vitan started to do vocals only 2 years ago so this band's sound evolved on how his singing improved.
Are there any plans to go on tour?
Most of us had touring on the bucket list since we were at least 14 years old. If the opportunity and possibility to play with our idols presents, who are we to say no.
What else is happening in the world of Ka'rah?
Right now we are preparing to get back on stage and show the rest of the world our craft, presence and song. With new addition of David on the guitar, we already started writing new material.
Who knows, maybe in next year or so we get the new LP out.
