DECEIVETH interview

Hi DECEIVETH, congratulations on the release of Cords! You must be excited. Firstly, can you tell us about the formation of the band? When and how was it formed? Do you believe the band name 'DECEIVETH' perfectly describes your music and philosophy?

It’s a solo project, so I guess you could say it was formed a couple years ago when I woke up one day and decided to start it. The name DECEIVETH is good enough. It’s archaic and a bit intimidating all at once.

Now, can you tell us about Cords and the lyrical themes behind each track? What are the ideas you wanted to convey?

The lyrical theme of the Cords EP focuses on etheric cords formed throughout our lives that bind us to those we have encountered, and the rituals - or what you could consider a therapeutic ritual process of tending to and releasing these cords. The lyrics ponder various questions around this concept – What really connects us to those in the past? How does this connection manifest itself energetically? Can this lead to one’s destruction?

Where and when did you record Cords? Are you satisfied with the final product?

It was produced in the second half of 2024. I recorded everything to a multitrack using a bunch of FX pedals, old drum machines and reverb units I’ve collected, various vocoders and sound makers. There’s a structured bass/drums format to each track, but much of what goes on top is improvisational with all effects printed to tape in the moment.

Do you have any plans to release official band merchandise?

I did a limited run of CDr for Cords. Otherwise, I think people should invest their money somewhere or donate it to charity rather than buying and surrounding themselves with more “stuff.”

What are DECEIVETH's musical and non-musical influences?

This project is influenced and inspired by Godflesh, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Killing Joke, Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, Wumpscut, Lycia, Dead Can Dance. DECEIVETH began while I was living in the mountains surrounded by deep woods, so that was important. Also, I’ve had the artist (Gianluca Cardinale) complete the artwork prior to the music for the past 2 releases. His great art and interpretation of my concepts certainly influences the sound.

Could you please share your personal views on religion and god?

That’s a huge topic for a random interview question. Which religion and which god(s)? I’m concerned only with my own path. As the major religions of the world gain more political power, they will eventually blow us all the fuck up.

Can we expect to see some gigs across the USA or Europe in the near future?

Never.

Lastly, when can fans expect something new from you? A music video, single, or documentary perhaps?

No plans at the moment. I have other projects to focus on for now, but plan to return to DECEIVETH early next year.

Thank you for the interview. Is there anything you would like to say to your fans, supporters, critics, and our readers before we wrap up?

Die with your boots on.
