Hi! Can you tell me about GREENGOAT? Why did you choose that name for the band? What kind of ideas does the band explore?
Hi! Thanks for this interview.
Actually, the name of the band came from the first ensemble.
Greengoat explores the idea of the strange and unique. That part of humanity that materializes from the world of dreams into the real world
The album A.I. will be released this month. How does that make you feel? Do you feel that you have put the album out to the masses without any desire to change anything now?
We are thrilled! And so looking forward to sharing it. It has been a long year of work and we are very happy with the outcome, although I imagine, as happens to most creators we know, it's never entirely finished. One must know when to stop.
Can you tell me more about A.I.? What were the ideas behind the album?
The album speaks about the human relationship with artificial intelligence and our interpretation of how that relationship would develop, especially if AI were to become self-aware.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
We draw inspiration from many themes, especially from science, technology, and science fiction, which are subjects that impassion us.
How would you best define GREENGOAT's sound?
Good question! We had to find a definition for our sound at the time, and we felt that we were approaching stoner doom. However, there are also many elements of metal and progressive in our compositions. Both of us have very broad musical tastes, and in this album, we've integrated elements from psychedelia to flamenco. It´s all about exploration.
Are you on hiatus now, just relaxing and looking for album feedback, or have you started composing new material immediately?
The truth is, when we were still finishing mixing this album, we had to hold back because we were already thinking about the next one! So, as soon as we finished A.I., we started working on new things. We want to take this new project calmly because we've learned a lot from A.I., and there's a lot ahead.
Who are your main musical influences? How much of an impact have they had on your sound?
That's a broad topic. Our influences are very diverse, and we listen to everything from doom to reggae, not to mention... classical music! Flamenco, heavy, stoner, metal... you name it. We believe everything influences us in one way or another.
Is there a particular well-known musician that you would like to collaborate with on one of your upcoming albums?
There are many incredible artists we would love to work with but, for example, for Ivan it would be Richie Kotzen from Winery Dogs (one of his favorite bands). For Ruth, having Trent Reznor just to see what comes out of the experiment! lol
What is your personal strategy for getting your music heard by a larger audience?
We strive to create high-quality audiovisual content, something that complements our music and helps express the meaning of the songs. Social media is crucial nowadays, and fortunately, we now have Argonauta Records, who are fantastic and tremendously help us give a voice to our project
Do you have any hobbies besides music?
Ivan: I do a lot of sports, I love nature, going out with the kayak... Ruth: Anything related to audiovisual art, photography, video, design, 3D animation... I'm always learning.
Are you all supported by your families in your dedication to music?
That's wonderful! Both of us are very fortunate in that aspect. We are surrounded by family and friends who sometimes believe in us even more than we do ourselves. That makes everything much easier.
Thank you for answering my questions. See you on the road!
Thank you very much, we have really enjoyed this interview.
