Almost Honest interview

First of all, please introduce your band and band members to our readers.

Shayne Reed - Vocals/Guitar

David Kopp - Guitar

Quinten Spangler - Drums

Garrett Spangler - Bass

I would like to know about the formation of the band. How did you guys meet and all? Also, is there any special story behind the band title?

Most of us met in Middle School/High School. We just thought Almost Honest sounded cool. We then came to find out it was the name of a Megadeth song. We have just been rolling with that title ever since.

I expect a long reply for this one. Can you please tell us about the concept and lyrical themes of all your previous releases?

They are actually all tied together by our love for Pennsylvania Folklore, Mythology, Culture and just general love for our state. It has just really all come together for our new record.

Is there any special reason for choosing your music conception?

It has come together naturally. We never set out to be any certain genre or style. We all have different tastes and likes. We just mesh them together and play what we like.

How do you guys manage to create music at all? What challenges do you face while writing and recording an album?

I actually think we write too much music haha. We are sitting on about 40 unrecorded songs right now. We usually come with either an idea or a couple riffs and we just hammer them out. I wish I could give some really big struggles with recording but honestly we just have a lot of fun and it comes together naturally with friends.

Your latest album, The Hex of Penn’s Woods, was released on November 24, 2023. How was the experience working in the studio? Were there any funny or even sad happenings during the studio work?

The difficult part was the pandemic. It really pushed back our recording and the release. Other than the typical being a perfectionist and trying to get the perfect parts I would say it was a pleasant experience. With this being our 3rd full length album we have come to know what to expect so things can go smoother.

Can you shed some light on your past as musicians?

Quinten and Garrett were both in marching band in highschool. Quinten played drums and Garrett played the trumpet. David and I both started playing guitar around the same time in Middle School and we were in a couple cover bands before forming Almost Honest.

Tell us about your favorite bands from whom you gain inspiration. Do you have any favorite artists/bands that have emerged from the heavy rock scene?

We have so many that we can name but I will try and keep it brief. Crobot, Clutch, The Sword, Mutoid Man, King Buffalo, Modest Mouse, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Red Fang, Truckfighters, Greenleaf, Nirvana, and just so much more.

How is the heavy rock music scene going in your country?

In our country it is going strong I would say. It is very underground but we have so many great and talented bands.

Tell us if you have played abroad.

We had a Canadian tour planned but due to the Pandemic it was cancelled.

Are you working on any music videos, whether it be a video clip or a lyric video?

Nothing at the moment but we did film a music video for Amish Hex. It is a funny music video about an Amish child getting revenge by summoning an Amish Wizard.

Rapid-fire section. Just for fun. So just chill and type the first thought that comes to your mind when you hear:

Fuzz - Peach

Focus - Adhd

USA - Corn

Drugs - Bad

Lamb of…  - Potato

Thanks a lot for your time! It's really nice to know more about you. Would you like to say anything to your fans and our readers?

Thank you all for the support and we hope you enjoy The Hex of Penns Woods!
